This heart's been loving This heart's been scared This heart has taken me everywhere This heart's been beaten This heart has won This heart has soared and been under the gun There's no telling What I still may endure But life has trained me To stick around through more This heart was built to last This heart was built to last From the joy and pain in my past This heart was built to last This heart was built to last This heart's been uplifted This heart's been bruised This heart keeps time when I'm singin' the blues This heart's been sheltered This heart's been exposed This heart has lived and learned and it shows There's no telling What I still may go through But life has trained me To keep showing up for you This heart was built to last This heart was built to last From the joy and pain in my past This heart was built to last This heart was built to last This heart was built to last

Before we float down the river There's something that we need to talk about About how much I love you It's time you know just where my heart is at And when we are together The two of us is more than you and me You made this good life better With you I am the man I strive to be The windows to your soul They shine a special light The light that guides me close to you Darling woman, when we're face to face You bring so much joy to my life Darling woman, get a closer view Of the love in this man's eyes The love in this man's eyes The love I see in you The worlds we have around us Have shaped us into who we are today We are so many people In all the different parts we've learned to play My eyes are on this woman I'm captivated with what you're about So let me be the mirror I see you beautiful inside and out The truest character is you right here and now That's all you need to be for me Darling woman, when we're face to face You bring so much joy to my life Darling woman, get a closer view Of the love in this man's eyes The love in this man's eyes The love I see in you Darling woman, when we're face to face You bring so much joy to my life Darling woman, get a closer view Of the love in this man's eyes The love in this man's eyes The love I see in you Darling woman, when we're face to face You bring so much joy to my life Darling woman, get a closer view Of the love in this man's eyes The love in this man's eyes The love in this man's eyes The love in this man's eyes

To hell and back on a roller coaster In and out the revolving door Up and down faster than a yo-yo And then falling off the floor If they tried to make a movie Hollywood would not believe Anyone could really have Such a story up their sleeve This is what we're dealing with These are our real lives Here comes another plot twist Keeping us on our toes Just when we thought we knew How the story goes Here comes another plot twist Rocking us back on our heels Just when we thought we knew How we were gonna feel No way any more could happen We had our hands quite full Then we felt a new change coming The rug was getting pulled In the hurricane of chaos We found some inner peace Angels in our souls to save us And grant us some release This is what we're rolling with These are our real lives Here comes another plot twist Keeping us on our toes Just when we thought we knew How the story goes Here comes another plot twist Rocking us back on our heels Just when we thought we knew How we were gonna feel Here comes another plot twist Rocking us back on our heels Just when we thought we knew How we were gonna feel Tell me, how can this be real?

I keep typing in my password Still the validation fails One more strike and I'll be doing time in password jail I just want to see my doctor Is that too much to ask? Enough watching spinning circles No more unfulfillable tasks I've been proving my identity For all eternity I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal Now patient is the hardest thing to be I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal This portal sucks the soul right out of me They said this would be easier But they only made it hard My browser freezes when I upload my insurance card Hey - didn't I just fill out this form Only moments ago? The medication list I entered Where the hell did that go? I’ll be answering this questionnaire For all eternity I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal Now patient is the hardest thing to be I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal This portal sucks the soul right out of me This confusing creation Keeps giving me the blues This confounding contraption That even my doctors Don't know how to use I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal Now patient is the hardest thing to be I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal This portal sucks the soul right out of me I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal I'm a mere mortal Trapped forever in a patient portal

If you could have a superpower What would you choose? Being two places at once Would blow away my blues I’d be right here while out of town I would never let you down I could rock my work boots and my dancin’ shoes I’d be serious and having fun Kicking back while getting stuff done If I could be Two places at once (Two places at once) Well while we’re at it, why stop at two? If we could be nine places, think what we could do We’d be riding high, living the dream We could each of us field a baseball team Or put on a play and be our own cast and crew We’d be serious and having fun Kicking back while getting stuff done If we could be Nine places at once (Nine places, nine places) Nine places at once (Nine places, nine places) Nine places at once (Nine places) Nine places I could work and play at the same time Be both ridiculous and sublime I could say yes to whatever I’m asked I could actually multitask I’d be serious and having fun Kicking back while getting stuff done If I could be Two places at once (Two places at once) I’d be serious and having fun Kicking back while getting stuff done If I could be Fifty places at once (Singing that 50 times is not in our contract!) OK - two places at once (Two places at once)

Side Effects 03:10
You may wake up in the dead of night Your mind needs rest, but it's taking flight It's hard to focus on the task at hand ‘Cause you’re dealing with a feeling you don’t understand If you have any of the above You may be feeling the side effects of love You may notice thoughts racing through your brain And you're seeing things that you can't explain You skip through fields, dance along the shore See your lover in a bathtub next to yours If you have any of the above You may be feeling the side effects of love Love can keep you waiting Keep you ringing for the nurse Can change you for the better Though your side effects seem worse If you're on top of the world but you're feeling blue Ask your doctor if love is right for you You should read the disclaimer by that asterisk Still the benefits outweigh the risk I'm the case study I'm speaking of You can live with the side effects of love I'm the case study I'm speaking of You can live with the side effects of love

No sadness fades slower Than molasses blues No sadness fades slower Than molasses blues Takes longer than scraping tar Off the devil's shoes Her love was sweeter Than a steamy, sticky honey bun Her love was sweeter Than a steamy, sticky honey bun Just one taste And all my senses come undone I was lulled into thinking She would never, ever cut me off I was lulled into thinking She would never, ever cut me off But her sweet intoxication Made my candy-coated brain go soft Oh, doctor please help me Kick these molasses blues Oh, doctor please help me Kick these molasses blues So I just say no to cane sugar And Equal or Splenda or Stevia or even agave syrup Is what I choose

Exposure 02:20
I got a call about a gig where I don’t get paid They say it might make me a star someday I said pardon me, this deal sounds funny I’m working for free while I'm making you money The bank’s calling up talking foreclosure Should I say I got paid in exposure? Working for Working for exposure Working for Working for exposure My boss called a meeting at the end of the day This will look good on your resume It's just an hour at the end of your shift No bonus but trust me - it's really a gift I'm about to lose my composure I'm spending my free time working for exposure Working for Working for exposure Working for Working for exposure A hard day’s work for a hard day’s pay Ha! Bait and switch, now it’s pay to play… Here's something new, it's really a trip You pay your employer for your internship You pay your dues before you pay your dues This game of exposure will give you the blues I’ve gotta warn you, full disclosure I’ve heard it said, people die of exposure Where’s the justice? Where’s the closure? It's a race to the bottom to work for exposure Working for Working for exposure Working for Working for exposure

It’s gonna be terrific Yeah, I’ve heard that one before Your lying is prolific And I’m walking out the door I can't hitch my star to someone's wagon When they’re all consumed with grievances and braggin’ Not that I don’t trust ya But I don’t trust ya You’re just winging it While you swear you have a plan Your never-ending ego Is bound to bust ya And I ain’t gonna be where the pieces land I tell you that I’m all done You say that's not so nice But I can't count on someone Who just takes their own advice You want one-way loyalty You'll have to do without it I might have to write A tell-all book about it Not that I don’t trust ya But I don’t trust ya You’re just winging it While you swear you have a plan Your never-ending ego Is bound to bust ya And I ain’t gonna be where the pieces land You’re treated so unfairly We’ll, that’s really such a shame You deserve all of the credit And never any blame Not that I don’t trust ya But I don’t trust ya You’re just winging it You never had a plan Your never-ending ego Is bound to bust ya And I ain’t gonna be where the pieces land Not that I don’t trust ya But I don’t trust ya You’re just winging it You never had a plan Your never-ending ego Is bound to bust ya And I ain’t gonna be where the pieces land Not that I don’t trust ya But I don’t trust ya Not that I don’t trust ya But I don’t trust ya Bye bye

Objects in your rearview mirror May look bigger than they really are We're a million miles from yesterday Why can't you just be glad we've come this far? I know you still have deep regrets You say we should have never grown apart But I get so sad to hear those words 'Cause I know I just don't feel that In my heart Give up the ghost That leads you to stand with your foot in the door Give up the ghost I don't want to haunt you in the night anymore Just to know I'm like a specter to you Comes back through the dark To haunt me too Get over it Please, snap out of it Give up the ghost When we forced our dreams upon each other All we did was hold each other back You denied my having second thoughts You would not believe me when my bags were packed I know you still have deep regrets You're tending to your wounded sense of pride But I get so sick to hear you say We could have been tremendous if we tried Give up the ghost That leads you to stand with your foot in the door Give up the ghost I don't want to haunt you in the night anymore Just to know I'm like a shadow to you Comes back through the dark To haunt me too Get over it Please, snap out of it Give up the ghost Give up the ghost That leads you to stand with your foot in the door Give up the ghost I don't want to haunt you in the night anymore Just to know I'm like a shadow to you Comes back through the dark To haunt me too Get over it Please, snap out of it Give up the ghost

I've broken a cycle May it never return It took long and hard looks To finally learn Now I know what it takes To be peaceful and strong To be happy and loving, My whole life long When the time came I let my feelings be When the time came I set my spirit free Extinguished the anger And put down the blame I did what it takes When the time came I've gone through some changes They were worth the pain I shouldered the heartache But so much was gained I journeyed so deeply So deeply inside I read that old screenplay That played in my mind When the time came I let my feelings be When the time came I set my spirit free Extinguished the anger And put down the blame I did what it takes When the time came Sure I was scared of how I might change Still nothing's more frightening than staying the same When the time came I let my feelings be When the time came I set my spirit free Extinguished the anger And put down the blame I did what it takes When the time came When the time came And may I do it again

about

In 2022, I released one album that very earnestly discussed mental health and self-care. A few months later, I reached back over the years to compile my more humorous offerings, especially those connected with my home state of New Jersey.

Those two divergent experiences informed a more comprehensive approach to songwriting where I ended up creating this new album "Side Effects" that would weave the humorous together with the earnest, telling a heartfelt story punctuated with some laughs. It's a story of the persistence of loving hearts through challenges big and small.

"If you have any of the above, you can live with the side effects of love," proclaims the title track. I really mean that.

The musical setting revolves around classic rock and adult contemporary, pulling from the musical styles I felt would help move the story along - powerpop, hard rock, ska, blues, punk, and alternative.
